About Alyson

Antenatal and postnatal services in Buckinghamshire & Berkshire

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I’m Alyson. I am a professional midwife, mother, and founder of My Midwife.

I decided at the tender age of 14 that I wanted to be a midwife, having chosen to study child development at school. Little did I know this was only the very start of an amazing journey…

I recall the excitement of starting my training in 2004 and beginning to gain the knowledge I needed to be the best midwife I could possibly be. I was lucky enough to be placed with the most dedicated and diligent midwife for my very first community placement. She had over 30 years’ experience, as had her mother before her, so I knew I was in safe hands from the start. To this day we remain close friends, which means I still get to pick her brains a lot!

I qualified in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Midwifery and further deepened my knowledge in 2019 with a Master of Science Degree in Midwifery and Women's Health. I am also a qualified Newborn Life Support Instructor with the Resuscitation Council UK, where I teach newborn resuscitation skills to midwives, nurses, doctors and consultants in hospitals around the UK.

I have worked as a full-time NHS midwife for over 15 years, gaining extensive experience in the community, attending home births, as well as in hospital-based settings and in midwife-led birth centres, where I have been a lead midwife for the last ten years. I am also trained in hypnobirthing, baby massage and a range of complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, reflexology and aromatherapy, to help expectant mothers before and after they give birth.

I live in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire with my husband and our two mischievous cats. Now that our children have grown up and flown the nest, I have found my love (and the time) for gardening, as well as midwifery, and together they both keep me happily busy. I also enjoy walking, reading and swimming, with the occasional bike ride thrown in for good measure!

Why I started My Midwife

I have established My Midwife to offer antenatal and postnatal services to expectant mothers and families, in addition to those offered by the NHS, to help them make their journey into parenthood a truly bespoke experience and one that is as safe, calm and special as it can be.

I want you to feel confident and empowered throughout your journey, with time and experience on your side as you make decisions that are right for you and your baby. My qualifications enable me to offer you in-depth support and expertise when you need it most, using the most robust and current evidence-based information available.

I am proud to have looked after a large number of families over the years with many booking me as their named midwife, sometimes multiple times over. I give thanks to those women and families for trusting me to provide them with the best care possible and for teaching me the beautiful art of midwifery.

I am passionate about women’s health and believe every parent deserves unhurried time with an experienced midwife and a memorable start to parenthood. I would like nothing more than to offer my experience and expertise to you and your baby.
