Complementary Therapies
For a calm, comfortable pregnancy
Throughout all stages of your pregnancy, complementary therapies can help improve your wellbeing. From calming symptoms of morning sickness, to reducing anxiety and fatigue, there are a range of different treatments that I can offer you to help you target a specific issue or just to unwind and find some inner peace.
Therapeutic touch has a wonderful effect on your body’s ability to relax and talking about your body and your pregnancy as it changes and evolves is a wonderful act of self-care that will only help to improve your mood.
Available treatments
I offer sessions on an individual basis at £85 per session. The price is the same for any treatment or combination of treatments. There are some treatments that I can teach you, depending on how your body responds, so that you can practice them yourself at home.
I offer free 10-minute telephone consultations ahead of booking if you would like to ask any questions or to feel reassured that the treatments are right for you.
At our first session, I will discuss your overall health with you, take a detailed medical history and recommend an appropriate treatment programme, which might include a combination of different therapies. Sessions take place in the comfort of your home and all you need to provide is a quiet space.
Aromatherapy
1 hour
Aromatherapy harnesses the natural benefits of plants, usually in the form of scented essential oils such as chamomile, lavender and tea tree, to lift your mood and promote relaxation. I will create a blend of aromatherapy oils that are bespoke to you and your needs and that you can take away to use at home.
Acupuncture
1 hour
Traditional acupuncture is based on the belief that an energy known as Qi (pronounced “chee”) flows through the body in channels called meridians. Fine needles are gently applied to specific parts of your body to access these channels and stimulate a response. Acupuncture can help with pelvic girdle/ lower back pain, breech presentation, induction of labour, pain relief, relaxation and relieving the symptoms of morning sickness.
Moxibustion
1 hour
Birth is most likely to be straightforward if your baby has his or her head downwards (cephalic position) at the start of labour. Most babies who are found to be in the bottom-down (breech) position, will turn to the more usual head-down position by 35 weeks. After this time, they may turn by themselves, but this becomes less likely. Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese therapy that can be offered from 34 weeks of pregnancy, which naturally encourages your baby to turn head-downwards. During therapy, moxa sticks are lit and placed close to acupuncture points on your feet to provide a warming sensation. It is thought to increase your baby’s movements, helping him or her to become active enough to somersault into a head-down position. Research evidence suggests that moxibustion is safe and significantly increases your chance of your baby turning.
