When is the best time to start the hypnobirthing course? The short answer is that it is never too early, or too late to learn hypnobirthing. Many mothers choose to start after the 20-week ultrasound scan, but some will decide to start much earlier, or much later in their pregnancy. One of the main aspects of hypnobirthing is relaxation, which is a skill that gets easier the more you practise, so it’s worth considering this when deciding when to start. Everybody is different but whatever stage you’re at when you get involved, you’ll be sure to see the benefit.

Where does the Rewind originate from? The Rewind Technique was originally created in 1991 by Dr David Muss, who found it to be highly effective in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), phobias and panic attacks. It is called the Rewind Technique because the client is guided to ‘imagine’ the distressing event rewind in their mind’s eye. The Rewind “re-processes” a distressing memory that has been trapped in the amygdala, the part of the brain that processes emotions and memories associated with fear, so that it’s no longer seen as a current, threatening event. When the event is processed using the Rewind Technique, it becomes a past, non-threatening event in the brain, and the nervous system is allowed to return to a natural state of calm.
-
What if it doesn't work for me?Research studies show that the Rewind Technique works for 97% of the people who experience it. It is thought that the 3% it fails to work for are people who, perhaps even unconsciously, resist letting go of their trauma. The Rewind Technique is not magic, although it may feel like it is. When a distressing memory is trapped in the brain, the brain simply needs context, or narrative, to process that memory and move it to the neocortex where it becomes a non-threatening, past event. Rewind accomplishes that.
-
How quickly will I feel results?Immediately. It is common to feel peaceful, relaxed and calm afterwards.
-
How long will these results last?Forever! Once a traumatic memory has been processed in the brain, that’s it. You are able to move forward in your life without that memory impacting you negatively ever again. You will always have voluntary recall of the event, but you will no longer experience any advers effects from it.
-
Do I need to talk about my traumatic birth event? One of the incredible features of the Rewind Technique is that you do NOT need to discuss the details of your trauma. I will ask you what sort of trauma we will be working with, but you do not need to disclose the details. We can even use code words to address the trauma, if you find speaking about it difficult or upsetting. My main objective is to make you feel safe and secure, whilst helping you move from a place of uncertainty and anxiety, to a place of peace and hope.
